Nintedanib, developed by Boehringer Ingelheim specifically for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), is a small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). It is also the first IPF targeted therapeutic drug that has consistently proven in clinical trials to significantly reduce the annual decline rate of lung function (up to 50% reduction), thereby delaying the progression of IPF. It can simultaneously block platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR), vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR1-3), and fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR1-3).
